Earn Your Ears has a free tier and a Premium subscription. This article covers what each tier includes, how to upgrade, how to restore a purchase on a new device, how to cancel, and what Founding Member status means.

The free tier is real: Race Day Tracker with full corral-aware sweep math is free — that's the headline feature, and we wanted everyone running a runDisney race to have access to it regardless of subscription. Premium pays for the training side of the app: plans, rehearsal modes, and unlimited history.

The annual plan is what most subscribers pick — it works out to about 40% less than monthly, and the 7-day free trial gives you a runway to evaluate the training plans on a real week of running.

How the free trial works: The annual plan offers 7 days free, then bills $49.99. You can cancel during the trial through iOS Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions and won't be charged. After the 7 days, the subscription renews annually until you cancel.

How to upgrade

1 Open Profile

Tap the Profile tab at the bottom of the screen.

2 Tap "Upgrade to Premium"

You'll see a card showing "Unlock all training plans · $6.99/mo or $49.99/yr". Tap anywhere on that card to open the upgrade screen.

3 Pick monthly or annual

The paywall shows both options side by side. Annual is preselected with "Start your 7-day free trial". Tap to choose, then confirm with Face ID, Touch ID, or your Apple ID password.

4 Premium activates immediately

Within a few seconds, the Profile tab will switch from "Upgrade to Premium" to "Premium Member" with your renewal date. All Premium features unlock right away.

You can also reach the paywall by tapping any locked Premium feature (Corral Simulation, Proof of Time, or Start Plan on Training Plans). Same flow.

Restore a purchase on a new device

If you bought Premium on one device and installed Earn Your Ears on another (new iPhone, or had to reinstall), use Restore Purchases to bring your subscription with you.

Two things must match for restore to work:

You're signed into iOS with the same Apple ID you used to buy the subscription
You're signed into Earn Your Ears with the same Earn Your Ears account (email) as before

1 Open Profile

Tap the Profile tab.

2 Tap "Restore Purchases"

The button is near the subscription section — always visible whether you're free or Premium. Apple requires it for any app with in-app purchases.

3 Wait a few seconds

The app checks Apple's records and re-syncs your entitlement. You'll see one of three messages:

"Restored" — Premium is now active. Done.
"Premium Active" — Premium was already active on this account. Nothing changed, but you're good.
"Restore Failed" — no active subscription found on this Apple ID. Confirm you're signed into the right Apple ID, or that the subscription hasn't lapsed.

Managing your subscription

For changes — switching monthly to annual, canceling, updating payment method — Apple controls the subscription, not us. The Profile screen has a shortcut directly to your subscription in iOS Settings:

1 Profile tab → "Manage Subscription"

Tap the Manage Subscription link in the Premium section. iOS will open Settings → Subscriptions → Earn Your Ears directly.

2 Make your change

From there you can switch between monthly and annual plans, cancel, or update payment information. All changes are handled by Apple.

You can also reach it without the app: Open iOS Settings → tap your name at the top → Subscriptions → find Earn Your Ears.

Canceling

You can cancel any time. Cancellation doesn't refund what you've already paid, but it stops future renewals — you keep Premium access through the end of the current billing period.

1 Open your iOS subscription

Use Profile → Manage Subscription, or go through iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Earn Your Ears.

2 Tap "Cancel Subscription"

Confirm when prompted. You'll see "Expires on [date]" in the app afterward — that's when Premium turns off. Until then, you have full access.

Free trial cancellation: If you're in the 7-day trial of the annual plan and you cancel before day 8, you won't be charged at all. The app will still show Premium active until the trial period ends, then it'll drop back to free.

Founding Members — free for life

The first 25 beta testers of Earn Your Ears get Premium free for life as a thank you for showing up before the app was ready. Founding Member status is granted automatically once verified — no subscription needed, no payment ever.

How to tell if you're a Founding Member: Open the Profile tab. If you're a Founding Member, the Premium section shows "Founding Member · Lifetime Premium" instead of a renewal date. You don't need a subscription, and the upgrade card won't appear.

Founding Member access is tied to your Earn Your Ears account email — it carries across devices automatically through Restore Purchases without a real Apple transaction.

Troubleshooting

I paid but Premium features are still locked

Tap Restore Purchases in Profile. This is almost always a sync timing issue — the Apple receipt completed but the in-app entitlement hadn't refreshed. Restore forces the refresh and unlocks within seconds.

Restore Purchases says "no active subscription"

Check two things: (1) Are you signed into iOS with the same Apple ID you used to buy the subscription? (Settings → tap your name at the top to see.) (2) Did the subscription lapse? (Settings → Subscriptions → look for Earn Your Ears under either Active or Expired.) If it expired, you'll need to resubscribe.

I'm a Founding Member but Premium features are locked

Tap Restore Purchases. Founding Member entitlements sync the same way as paid subscriptions — restore re-checks the server and re-grants Lifetime Premium. If that doesn't work, email support@earnyourears.app from the email tied to your account.

I want a refund

Refunds are handled by Apple, not us. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with your Apple ID, find the Earn Your Ears purchase, and request a refund. Apple decides whether to grant it. If you want us to know why, email us — we use that feedback to improve the app.

Can I share Premium with my family?

Yes, if Family Sharing is enabled in iOS. The subscription will share with all members of your Family group automatically — no extra steps. Note that each family member needs their own Earn Your Ears account to track their own runs.

I switched from monthly to annual — did I lose anything?

No. Apple prorates the change — your monthly billing stops, the annual starts, and any unused time from the monthly is credited toward the annual. You don't lose access, history, or settings.

The paywall says "Premium subscriptions are being finalized for this build"

This is rare and usually means the build was loaded before our subscription products fully provisioned in App Store Connect. Close and reopen the app — if it persists, email support@earnyourears.app with your build number.

Will my Premium status follow me to Android someday?

Android isn't out yet. When it is, your Earn Your Ears account email will carry your subscription across platforms — though Apple subscriptions don't transfer to Google billing automatically, so there may be a one-time re-subscribe step on Android. Founding Members are an exception: lifetime is lifetime, regardless of platform.
